History of the STOWA chronographs

STOWA has a long and successful tradition in building mechanical chronographs. The history goes way back to the 1960s and 1970s. There were plain chronographs in classic cases, but also playful cases and color designs in the 1970s. STOWA was always there with fancy watches. Inside these collectibles, many of which can be seen in the STOWA museum, the watches housed mechanical movements of the time: Valjoux movements, Landeron calibers and so on. Today, as in all STOWA watches, the best Swiss movements continue to be installed, for example, the well-known and proven Valjoux 7753 chronograph movement (reliable and robust). One of the best calibers ever. STOWA has been working very successfully with this mechanical chrono movement for over 25 years.

In the sixties, the dials were very reduced. This was implemented not only in normal three-hand watches, but of course also in the chronographs of the time.

1970s - Bigger and more colorful

The seventies were radical in terms of design. Larger, often angular case shapes, as well as colorful dials were very refreshing and bold.

The Marine Chrono is based on the pocket watch design of the STOWA observation watch from around 1942. A silver dial and temperature-blued steel hands document pure classicism.

The numbers of this chrono are elaborately embossed eight times. This is the only way to achieve the extremely fine line widths. Afterwards, the numbers are turned with a diamond and galvanized.

Reduction. The STOWA Flieger Chrono deliberately leaves out the permanent small seconds. This allows to preserve the original pilot watch design. This design innovation certainly helped the watch win the Golden Balance Wheel in 2012.

In 2013, the Marine Chrono takes second place in the UHREN-MAGAZIN and Focus Online Golden Balance voting. The classic chronograph arrangement and the high-quality components, e.g. temperature-blued steel hands, are very popular with STOWA collectors worldwide.
