Flieger Verus Black Forest series

STOWA, one of the largest historically documented pilot watch manufacturers, produces these watches today in a wide variety of designs. The Verus collection in a steel case is being expanded to include the following Black Forest models in a black-coated case. The Verus Black Forest Foxfire – inspired by a rare natural phenomenon, the mysterious “glowing moss” also known as foxfire. As well as the Verus Black Forest Lagoon model – the design is inspired by the Blautopf in Baden-Württemberg, one of the bluest bodies of water Germany has to offer.

Flieger Verus Black Forest Foxfire

STOWA is expanding its modern pilot watch collection with an extraordinary model: the Flieger Verus Black Forest Foxfire. This new mechanical wristwatch combines a clean, contemporary design with the fascinating inspiration of a rare natural phenomenon – the mysterious “glowing moss” known as foxfire.

The Verus Black Forest Foxfire combines German watchmaking tradition, modern design and the poetic power of nature into a distinctive pilot watch that captivates with its clarity by day and its unique glow by night.

The hands and the classic pilot’s triangle with two dots at 12 o’clock glow in the dark with an intense green light. The black numerals and minute markers, on the other hand, emit a subtly dimmer glow at night, also in a greenish hue. A subtle, atmospheric effect reminiscent of the natural glow of foxfire in the forest. Foxfire refers to a fascinating natural phenomenon: the mysterious glow of wood colonized by certain fungi. It is often colloquially referred to as “glow-in-the-dark moss,” but in reality, it is not moss at all, but rather bioluminescent fungi. These fungi produce their greenish-blue light through a chemical reaction in their cells, during which energy is released in the form of visible light—without generating any heat. Foxfire is particularly easy to observe in dark, damp forests, usually at night and on decaying wood. Why the fungi glow is not fully understood. A common theory suggests that the light attracts insects, which help spread the fungal spores. Foxfire has fascinated people for centuries and appears in both old seafaring tales and modern natural history.

The movements

The movements

The Verus series is powered by the Swiss automatic movement Sellita SW 200 in basic or top version, as well as optionally with the hand-wound movement Sellita SW 210 in top version. For optimum suitability for everyday use, many variants are also available with an optional date window. The choice of high-quality components guarantees an uncomplicated, durable and robust pilot watch. No matter which configuration you choose in the end: Each watch is created with great care at the company headquarters in Pforzheim and therefore bears the “Made in Germany” label. All watches are built on the long history of the STOWA brand, but are technically up to date. The best guarantee for a valuable investment in a timepiece with history and a future.

For night-time visibility, the minute markers and numerals are coated with black Superluminova. This does not alter the appearance of the black printing in daylight, but in the dark, the coated elements glow softly in a bright blue hue. The hands, on the other hand, are coated with turquoise Superluminova in Grade A, which glows blue.

The black-coated case, also known as the “Black Forest” case, is as black as the beautiful, dense Black Forest – where STOWA is headquartered – is said to be, with all its mystical charm.
