| Frequently asked questions |
Here are the answers to the most popular questions we get asked.
Are STOWA watches available at retailers?
To ensure that we can consistently offer you the best price, we sell our watches through our online shop. By doing so, we keep our distribution, retail and wholesale costs down—and that allows us to pass along the savings on to you. We have, however, made some of our watches available through a select few retailers. In Germany, the STOWA Partitio is available at Manufactum department stores (Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Waltrop). In the U.S., the STOWA Seatime ProDiver is available through watchbuys.com. In Japan, a selection of STOWA watches can be found at Tic Tac watch stores. In Taiwan and South Korea you can find the complete collection of STOWA watches.
Can I take a tour of STOWA watches when I'm in Engelsbrand, Germany? If so, can I buy a watch from you then?
Yes, we enjoy giving tours of STOWA. To schedule a tour of our factory in Engelsbrand, please send an e-mail to info@stowa.com and be sure to include the dates you plan to visit. Once we receive your request, we will confirm your tour details via e-mail. And, yes, when you arrive at STOWA, you're more than welcome to buy a watch right on the spot.
Where can I have my STOWA repaired/serviced?
At the STOWA factory in Engelsbrand. Our master watchmakers will be happy to provide you with any repairs your watch may need. We simply ask that you send us your insured and carefully packed watch, along with a brief description of your repair/service request, to the address printed on your guarantee certificate. If your watch is still under warranty, we will gladly refund you your postage and perform all repairs free of charge. Due to logistical reasons, we have a difficult time accepting parcels without stamps. For that reason, we ask that you send us your STOWA in a stamped package. If you are unable to ship us your watch for any reason, any reputable local watchmaker should be able to accommodate your repair/service needs. STOWA uses well-known movements with which any knowledgeable watchmaker should be familiar.
What happens if I don't like the watch I bought?
It's a rare occurrence when someone is not pleased with their STOWA purchase. However, if you are not happy with your purchase, you have 14 days to return your unworn watch. Once we have inspected the watch, we will reimburse you.
How often should my mechanical STOWA watch be serviced?
If necessary, your STOWA should be cleaned every four to five years. At the time of servicing, we normally replace the sealing and re-oil the bearings. The movement will be cleaned complete.
How can I contact STOWA?
Please address all inquiries to info@stowa.com. We will do our best to reply immediately.
Once I purchase a STOWA, how quickly will it be delivered?
Generally, some of our watches are in stock and we require two business day to ship. At the moment we have much longer delivery time for the most of our watches. We have moved to a new building and we have a lot of backorders. So please wait for your payment till we will inform you about the actual delivery time. If you purchase a watch through PayPal and if the watch is in stock, it's possible, under certain circumstances, that you will receive your watch within two to four business days. If you purchase by bank transfer, expect seven to 10 business days for delivery. Please be advised again that at the moment a few watchmodels have longer delivery time because we have a full booked ordersheet. But each model has a link where you can click and than you have all actual delivery times listet.
Do I need to pay the German VAT?
All European and German customers have to pay the German VAT. All non european customers can order without german VAT in our new Onlineshop under www.stowa.com. Except customers from Malaysia and Singapore.(this countries have to order also in the european shop -www.stowa.de-because Fedex can´t charge the VAT directly from them. This is a Fedex rule and we can´t change)
Does STOWA ship crocodile straps outside of Europe?
Generally, we do not ship crocodile straps outside of Europe. Due to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna), it's expensive and, because of paperwork, delivery time is long. In some cases, if you live outside of Europe, we will ship you crocodile straps, but must charge a one-time fee of 39 EUR (approximately USD) for paperwork. Because this is a one-time fee, it might make sense to place an order for more than one crocodile strap. Because we must get permission from the German government to ship each and every strap, delivery takes three to four weeks.
What payment methods can I use to purchase a STOWA?
Because it's convenient for both you and us, we prefer PayPal (setting up an account is fast and easy; visit www.paypal.com for more info). You can also make purchases by money transfers through your bank. This method takes more time, usually a few days. For more information, please read our bank transfer policy. Bancdetails
How much are shipping costs?
Naturally, shipping costs depend on where you live. (Check back soon for a list of shipping costs to different countries.) During the ordering process, but before the final order confirmation, we will tell you the total amount of your shipping costs.
Where are STOWA watches and components are made ?
Sometimes there are discussions about the "Country of Origin" of STOWA watches and other watchbrands. We at STOWA want to be open as always.
Already in the year 2007 an article in the german watchmagazine Armbanduhren was published. (in the reason of the 80th. Anniversary of the STOWA Brand) It was the result of a interview Jörg Schauer gave to Armbanduhren.
Martin Häussermann(Journalist) and Jörg Schauer talked about the marketing and philosophy of STOWA.:
"Even under Schauer's aegis, these have been turbulent times for Stowa, with a lot of pressure being exerted on prices. The young team in Engelsbrand has managed to release this pressure in two ways: on the one hand, Schauer has been systematically and successfully looking for component manufacturers with a more favourable pricing structure, including those in the Far East, he admits. On the other hand, he emphasised that "80 percent of the value of Stowa watches is created in Europe". The company's marketing policy has been changed as well: from a traditional brand to direct sales. Schauer has been selling Stowa almost exclusively on-line for almost three years now (www.stowa.com) or directly from his workshop. Stowa watches have become clearly cheaper as a result of more favourable purchasing terms and the elimination of dealer profit margins." .
